AWD Options · Price-Ranked
AWD matters for Saskatchewan winters -- but AWD sticker prices vary widely. Here's every Hyundai with HTRAC AWD ranked from cheapest to most expensive, with real Moose Jaw payment estimates and honest guidance on which model fits which budget.
The most affordable new Hyundai with AWD is the 2026 Kona Essential AWD at approximately $30,849 MSRP (before freight, PDI, and fees -- expect around $33,000-34,000 all-in). The Kona Preferred AWD at $33,349 MSRP adds meaningful comfort features. Above that, the Tucson Essential AWD starts around $37,000-38,000 all-in, and Santa Fe AWD starts around $50,000-51,000 all-in.
If your budget is under $30,000 for AWD, look at used Kona AWD (2022-2024 models run $22,000-28,000) or used Tucson AWD (2020-2022 models run $23,000-30,000). Both retain most of their winter capability and Hyundai's remaining factory warranty on newer used units.
Come look at Kona, Tucson, Santa Fe, and Palisade AWD options in person -- new and used.

If your budget is under $30,000 for a Hyundai with AWD, used is the smart path. The Kona and Tucson have been around long enough to have plenty of AWD examples in the 3-5 year old range, and they hold their value well in Saskatchewan. Here's what to expect:
Price range: $22,000-28,000 depending on trim, kilometres, and year.
Warranty status: Hyundai's 5-year/100,000 km bumper-to-bumper warranty may still be active on 2022+ models depending on kilometres. Powertrain warranty (5-year/100,000 km) also frequently still in effect.
Sweet spot: 2022 Preferred AWD or 2023 Essential AWD at $23,000-25,000 with under 60,000 km -- biggest depreciation hit already absorbed, warranty coverage often remains.
Watch for: Rock chips on hood/fenders (SK gravel roads), road salt corrosion on rocker panels and wheel wells, HTRAC system service history.
Price range: $23,000-30,000 depending on trim, kilometres, and year.
Warranty status: 2020 vehicles are out of comprehensive warranty but may have powertrain coverage remaining. 2022 models often still have both.
Sweet spot: 2021 or 2022 Preferred AWD at $24,000-27,000 with 50,000-80,000 km -- pre-redesign Tucson is smaller than 2022+ but still meets family needs and prices are lower.
Watch for: Front-end damage from prairie hail, alignment issues from frost-heaved rural roads, service records at Hyundai dealerships (helps preserve any remaining warranty).
Hyundai CPO adds extended warranty coverage (up to 6-year/120,000 km comprehensive from original in-service date), 150-point inspection, 24/7 roadside assistance, and vehicle history verification. Typically costs $1,500-3,000 more than an equivalent non-CPO used unit -- for a first AWD vehicle or long-hold purchase, the extra peace of mind is often worth it in Saskatchewan.
Some of the best Hyundai AWD used inventory in the region comes from Regina and Saskatoon trades -- vehicles that have seen mostly city driving with dealer-serviced maintenance. Moose Jaw Hyundai regularly stocks these. Call to ask what's currently on the lot; inventory rotates weekly.
The right AWD Hyundai depends on your monthly budget, how you'll actually use the vehicle, and whether you're buying new or used. Here's honest guidance:
Recommendation: Used Kona AWD (2022-2024) or used Tucson AWD (2020-2022)
New AWD Hyundai monthly payments start around $580 on a 60-month term. To stay under $500/month, you're looking at used inventory or a longer loan term (72-month at 7% brings a new Kona to ~$500/month but adds $3,000+ in interest). Used is the better path.
Recommendation: New Kona AWD (Essential or Preferred) or used Tucson AWD Preferred
This is the sweet spot for AWD ownership in southern SK. New Kona AWD lands in this range with meaningful features, Hyundai's full warranty, and financing incentives. If you need more space, a slightly used Tucson AWD often fits this budget with more room.
Recommendation: New Tucson AWD (Preferred or higher) or new Santa Fe Essential AWD
Tucson gives you compact SUV practicality with more cargo and passenger room than Kona. Santa Fe steps up to midsize with 3-row seating -- worth it if you have kids in car seats or regularly haul more than 2 passengers with cargo. Tucson Hybrid AWD also fits this range and saves ~30% on fuel.
Recommendation: Santa Fe AWD (any trim) or Palisade AWD
Larger 3-row family SUVs. Santa Fe Calligraphy AWD tops out around $64,000 MSRP with premium features. Palisade AWD (Hyundai's full-size 3-row) starts around $50,000 MSRP and stretches to $70,000+ for Ultimate Calligraphy trim. If cargo, passenger space, and towing capability matter, this is the range.
AWD alone is a starting point. Here's what actually matters for southern Saskatchewan driving.
AWD helps you accelerate. It does not help you stop. Winter tires cut stopping distance on ice by 25-30%. Budget $1,200-1,800 for a proper set (steel wheels + winter tires with the 3-peak mountain snowflake symbol). Ask about Moose Jaw Hyundai's seasonal tire storage program -- one less thing to store at home.
Preferred trim and above add remote start, heated steering wheel, and heated seats. In a -30 °C southern SK January, these move from "nice to have" to "used daily". Worth the trim step-up if you can afford it -- much easier to pay for at purchase than to add later.
Every gas Hyundai sold in Canada comes with a block heater installed. Use it -- on nights below -20 °C, plug in for at least 3 hours before driving. Meaningful reduction in cold-start engine wear and faster cabin heat. The extension cord is on you (Moose Jaw Hardware or Canadian Tire has them for $20-40).
Kona has 175mm clearance. Tucson has 181mm. Santa Fe has 178mm (or 209mm on XRT trim). If you drive gravel roads or unploughed rural driveways regularly, higher clearance helps. Tucson and Santa Fe both handle typical southern SK rural conditions well; Kona is more urban-focused.
5-year/100,000 km bumper-to-bumper. 5-year/100,000 km powertrain. Best in the mainstream market alongside Kia. For AWD components (transfer case, driveshafts, differentials), that warranty coverage is meaningful because those are the components most affected by prairie winter driving.
Tucson Hybrid AWD and Santa Fe Hybrid AWD run about $3,000-4,000 more than gas equivalents but save 30-40% on fuel. Over a 5-year ownership at 20,000 km/year, that's $3,500-5,000 in fuel savings. Hybrids pay off if you commute regularly to Regina or drive rural distances. Not worth it if you only drive locally in Moose Jaw.
Kona, Tucson, Santa Fe, and Palisade AWD -- new and used. We'll walk through your budget, help you match trim to your needs, and set up a test drive with no pressure.
